Status : The Horizontal Branch is a late stage of stellar evolution for stars of initial mass about 0.5 to 8 Mo, following the Red Giant Branch and preceeding the Asymptiotic Giant Branch. They are burning helium in the core and hydrogen in a shell. Spectral type : F-G-K, with luminosity types III to Ib. Variability : Those on the instability strip are pulsating variables, including especially RR Lyrae, type II Cepheids (W Vir and BL Her), and (type I) Cepheids. -- CecileLoup - 2014-04-10 |
