EuroVO-AIDA - Update of the Census of European astronimocal Data Centres

The EuroVO-AIDA project realizes an update of the census of European data centres undertaken in 2008 by the EuroVO-DCA Project.

The Euro-VO Astronomical Infrastructure for Data Access (AIDA) project, funded by the European Commission within the Seventh Framework Program, aims at helping European astronomical data centres to publish their data and services in the Virtual Observatory, using standards defined by the International Virtual Observatory Alliance (IVOA).

The European community of Data Centres was identified by the EuroVO-DCA project, which realized a Census of the European astronomical data centres in 2008. The idea for the DCA was to provide the best possible service to help Data Centres participate in the VO and to understand their characteristics and needs. European Data Centres encompass a wide diversity of data and services, and the DCA adopted a broad and inclusive definition of a Data Centre (available here).

The census questions aimed to capture the basic information that characterises Data Centres in terms of their content, services and current interfaces. The information collected in this census provided a snapshot of the European Data Centre Community, and guided the preparation of workshops, tutorials and other assistance programs to help Data Centres 'publish to the VO'.

The EuroVO-AIDA Project which followed the EuroVO-DCA Project realizes now an update of this Census. All already identified Data Centre will be contacted and receive necessary information to update the questionnaires already submitted. If you did not participate to the 2008 Census, please contact Mathias DEPRETZ (mathias.depretz@astro.unistra.fr), which will indicate you how to proceed.
