Software requirements for tutorial sessions

To be able to run the workshop tutorials you need to install some common web development tools on your machine :

Most client applications (Topcat, VODesktop, Aladin) are available on the DVD in the /Software/Common/ directory. Splat-VO can be launched from this link and VOSpec from here.

Windows users will need to install VirtualBox (requires admin privileges) and run the prepared Ubuntu virtual machine (see Windows instructions below).
The virtual machine can be found on the workshop DVD ( /DVD/VirtualBox/) or on the online DVD on our server. It requires 3 Gig of free disk space.
You will need both AIDAWS09VM.ovf AND AIDAWS09VM.vmdk : the first is the virtual machine configuration and the second the compressed disk image.

Linux and MacOS X users have the choice of using the same virtual machine and run a "ready to use" and contained development environment,
or follow the specific instructions below to install the software directly on their machine. Note that PostGreSQL requires admin privileges.
