ESO SIA&SSA Tutorial
1. Publishing combined image- and spectral-data packages:
The aim of this tutorial is to show how to publish images and spectra being part of a survey according to SIAP and SSAP standards. We will use ESO data coming from the Great Observatories Origins Deep Survey (GOODS): near-infrared imaging observations (ISAAC reduced images and WFI previews) and multi-object, optical to NIR spectroscopy (FORS2 spectra) in the Chandra Deep Field South (CDF-S).

Metadata Extraction and Ingestion Process
- Database setup
- Mapping editor
- get sample FITS file header per data type
- define mappings between FITS keywords and IVOA models metadata
- test mappings against sample FITS file headers
- MEx
- ingest FITS into database
Creation of services to access the data
- Previews generation and access by HTTP protocol
- Healpix index computation (used by the search algorithm)
- Vectors computation (used by the search algorithm)
- SIA setup
- Query on the SIA server
- SSA setup
- Query on the SSA server
2. Discovery of the SIA/SSA services with Aladin
Use Aladin to display the results from a specific query through SIA and SSA services. The spectral observations will be displayed on top of images and can be displayed through the Specview applet.
