Preparation steps for Windows

For all the hands on sessions you will need 3 common software:

• Java JDK 1.5 (programmation language development environment)
• Tomcat 5.0 (application server to install your newly created services)
• MySQL 5.0 (relational database server to contain the data/metadata)

We invite you to install those in advance to be ready for the workshop.

Only Windows XP is supported for this workshop.

Download the packages

Open the following URL and download all the packages on your Desktop.

Install Java JDK 1.5

Execute the installation program :

jdk-1_5_0_12-windows-i586-p.exe

Follow the wizard for the installation of the Java JDK and JRE on your computer.

Install Tomcat 5.0

Execute the installation program :

jakarta-tomcat-5.0.28.exe

Follow the wizard for the installation of Tomcat on your computer.

When prompted for the administration settings :

leave the port ("8080") and the username ("admin") as is; input a password of your choice.

Install MySQL 5.0

Unpack the MySQL package doing "Extract All..."

Execute the installation program :

mysql-5.0.41-win32\setup.exe

Follow the wizard for the installation of MySQL on your computer.

You are now ready to start the hands on sessions of the workshop. Well done !
