Publishing catalogues with SAADA

The goal of this Hands on Session is to teach participants how they can publish their catalogues through VO standards, using the SAADA tool.

Session outline

Please check the detailed instructions during the hands-on session.

10:00-11:30

  • Introduction : presentation of the SAADA tool, demonstration of services using SAADA, and goals of the Hands on Session
  • Setting up Saada working area (includes PostgreSQL, Tomcat)
  • Testing setup

12:00-13:30

  • Creation of a SAADA DB
  • Ingesting tables in the DB
  • Accessing data using ConeSearch (in Aladin)
  • Metadata and UCD assignation
  • Registering the service in a test registry, and accessing this service from VO tools

15:00-17:00

  • Creation of SAADA databases and publication of associated VO services using participants catalogues data
  • Feedback, questions

Softwares

The following softwares will be needed during the session :

We highly recommend participants to install these softwares before they come to the workshop

SAADA installation

Copy on your hard drive the Saada.jar file corresponding to your plateform (from the workshop CD, in directory cds/softwares/saada/).

OS

The Hands on session has been tested under the following plateforms :

  • Linux
  • Windows XP (not tested under Vista)
  • MacOS 10.4

Participants data

As the last part of the Hands on Session is dedicated to create and publish ad-hoc VO services, participants should bring samples (FITS files) of their data.
