Note: | Structure of the Virgo cluster region. The designation 'Cloud' is used for group of galaxies, and often found in literature as 'W Cloud' instead of 'Cloud W'. The Virgo cluster itself may consist of 2 overlapping, but separate clouds Cloud S and Cloud E, and the 'Virgo Wing' or Cloud W. These clouds are divided in sub-groups S', Wa, Wb, W'. A Southern Extension of Virgo cluster is designated as 'Vir II' containing Clouds V, X, Y. Vir I, II, III represent 3 groups of galaxies: Vir I = Virgo cluster proper. Vir II = Virgo Southern Extension. Vir III = NGC 5846+NGC 5713+NGC 5566. See also [FFS84], BTS87. |
