Note:The Census of the Local Universe (CLU) is a narrow-band survey that searches for emission-line (Halpha) galaxies across ∼3π of the sky (26,470deg2) with 4 narrow-band filters that probe a distance out to 200Mpc. The images are taken with a 7.92deg2 mosaic imager composed of 12 CCD detectors with a 1 arcsec per pixel image scale on the Oschin 48inch telescope located atop Palomar observatory. The first filter is centered near the z=0 Hα emission line (lambda=6563Å) and the wavelength range of the last filter extends to z=0.047 (i.e., ∼200 Mpc). The first two filters (Ha1 and Ha2) make up the first filter pair and the 3rd and 4th filters (Ha3 and Ha4) make up the second filter pair. The survey uses an observational strategy of 3 spatially-staggered, overlapping grids that are limited to a declination of greater than -20°, where each grid contains N=3626 fields (26,470deg2 of the sky). Observations using the Ha1 and Ha2 filters cover the entire sky above -20° declination. Observations using the Ha3 and Ha4 filters also cover the sky above -20° declination, but avoid the Galactic plane (|b| ≤ 3^deg). A single 60 second exposure is taken for each field in each grid resulting in three images for the majority of positions on the sky.
