Object:Transient  (SIMBAD class: Transient = Transient Event)
Note:The SkyMapper Transient Survey is searching and studying supernovae and other transient objects using the SkyMapper 1.3m telescope. In order to search for transients we examine ∼2000 square degrees of sky, an area 10,000 times larger than the full Moon, at least every 5 days. This search is optimised for detecting low-redshift, or nearby, type Ia supernovae, to constrain cosmic expansion and peculiar velocities.
