Note:The Wide-field Infared Survey Explorer (WISE) is a NASA medium-class Explorer program that is performing a sensitive digital imaging survey of the entire sky in 3.4, 4.6, 12 and 22 micron bands. WISE achieves 5-sigma point source sensitivities better than 0.08, 0.11, 1 and 6 mJy in the 3.4, 4.6, 12 and 22 micron bands, respectively. Angular resolution is 6.1", 6.4", 6.5" and 12.0" at 3.4, 4.6, 12 and 22 microns, respectively, with astrometric precision better than 0.2". WISE was launched on 14 December 2009 and began its survey on 14 January 2010. Data products from WISE include a calibrated digital Atlas of coadded images in the four survey bands, and a Source Catalog containing positions and fluxes for objects detected on the coadded Atlas Images. Ancillary data products include the individual Single-exposure images that were coadded to form the Image Atlas and a Working Database of sources extracted from the Single-exposure images. The WISE Preliminary Data Release was made on April 14, 2011, and covered approximately 57% of the sky. The final survey products that covers the full sky took place approximately on March 14, 2012.
The "WISE" acronym refers to sources that are contained in the WISE Final Release Source Catalog.
Descriptions of the contents, format and characteristics of WISE data products are available in the Explanatory Supplement to the WISE Preliminary Data Release Data Products (Cutri et al. 2012): http://wise2.ipac.caltech.edu/docs/release/allsky/expsup/wise_allsky_toc.html
