Simbad can sort references

New feature to sort bibliographical reference in Simbad

Created: September 30, 2013 - 09:35 CEST

We are pleased to announce you a new feature to sort bibliographical references attached to an object in Simbad web pages.

If you choose to "display" "reference summary", (in section References in a Simbad object) new buttons are now available to sort references depending on where the object is cited (by default references are sorted by Year and Journal as before) :

- At least once in title, keywords, or abstract

- in a table row

- sort by Date (year and journal)

Inside each group, references are sorted by date.

An example from M16, use button "Title|Abstract|Keyword" from 2000 to 2013, you can find :

2010A&A...521A..61G ( in title, abstract, subtitle, caption, text ) [t a s x c ,156]

You have the information that the object was found in the title AND the abstract (the choice of sort is in bold format), the other locations are also given.

At the end of the line, you can see between brackets a single letter for all the information we have stored and the number of citations of the object in this article.

These additional information have been collected in the Simbad database since 2008. Since this year, we have the location of the object name in each article (title, abstract, keywords, subtitle, caption, table, ...) mainly in the major journals (A&A, AJ, ApJ, ApJS, MNRAS). Before 2008, the information is not complete.

The list of tags :

TITLE = "t";

ABSTRACT = "a";

KEYWORD = "k";

SUBTITLE = "s";

CAPTION = "c";

DATA = "d";

FIGURE = "f";

TEXT = "x";

\OBJECT = "o";
