Created: November 22, 2018 - 08:37 CET

November 20, 2018 marks the announcement of ESCAPE - The European Science Cluster of Astronomy and Particle Physics ESFRI Research Infrastructures. The ESCAPE project will address the Open Science challenges of astronomy and particle physics research by accelerating the implementation of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC).

ESCAPE is a 16 M INFRA-EOSC-04-2018 Cluster project, lead by the CNRS, the French public research organisation, with a consortium of 31 partners including 27 European partner institutions, two pan-European research organisations, and two SMEs. Starting in early 2019, ESCAPE will run for 42 months.

The Strasbourg Astronomical Data Centre (Centre de Donnes astronomiques de Strasbourg, CDS) leads the CEVO work package of the ESCAPE project with the aim of Connecting ESFRI projects to EOSC through the Virtual Observatory framework. Hosted by the Observatoire astronomique de Strasbourg, the CDS is ready to build on its long term contributions to data interoperability in astronomy by taking a large role in ESCAPE, expanding the vision of the Virtual Observatory and its connection to EOSC.
